Kolkata Doctor Rape Case: CBI Grills Former Principal, Inconsistencies Emerge

The investigation into the horrific rape of a postgraduate resident at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata continues to deepen, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pursuing multiple leads. The victim’s family has raised concerns over inconsistencies in the timeline of events, potentially pointing towards the involvement of others besides the primary suspect.

The victim’s father highlighted a crucial discrepancy: while the autopsy report indicated the incident occurred between 3 am and 5 am, his daughter’s duty hours were from 3 am to 10 am. He questioned why, despite being on duty, his daughter was not required for any medical assistance during those crucial hours. This raised suspicions about the possibility of other interns or residents being involved in the case.

The CBI, which is leading the investigation, has questioned over 30 individuals so far and is meticulously analyzing all available evidence. In a significant development, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, was grilled by the CBI for the second consecutive day on Saturday.

The incident has sparked outrage and protests across India, with medical professionals and students demanding justice for the victim. Doctors and students in Jaipur held a demonstration, expressing their anger and demanding swift and decisive action in the case.

Asha Devi, the mother of Nirbhaya (the victim of the 2012 Delhi gang rape), also spoke out, criticizing the state of women’s safety in India. She highlighted the lack of tangible action taken to ensure women’s security, despite the numerous laws and promises made after the Nirbhaya case. She questioned the effectiveness of these measures, pointing out the continued occurrences of such heinous crimes.

The Kolkata doctor rape case has once again brought into sharp focus the alarming issue of violence against women in India. The ongoing CBI investigation and the protests demanding justice serve as a stark reminder of the need for comprehensive measures to address this grave societal problem.
