The father of the postgraduate trainee doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He has alleged that while the Chief Minister talks about providing justice, attempts are being made to silence the voices of common people demanding accountability. This statement comes after CM Banerjee, who holds the home and health portfolios in the West Bengal government, led a protest march with other Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs and MLAs against the horrific crime. However, her participation in the protest was met with backlash from many who saw it as a political maneuver rather than a genuine expression of solidarity.
The father’s accusations extend beyond the Chief Minister, raising serious concerns about a potential cover-up within the hospital and its staff. He highlighted inconsistencies in the handling of his daughter’s body, claiming it was cremated first despite there being other bodies present at the crematorium. He also expressed disbelief in the lack of cooperation he received from the hospital and its department.
The victim’s colleagues have also suggested that the crime was not a random act, but a targeted attack. They pointed out that the trainee was under immense work pressure, including a grueling 36-hour shift, and her diaries revealed the intensity of her workload. One of her colleagues told The Times of India that the accused, Sanjay Roy, had prior knowledge of her being alone in the seminar hall, raising questions about possible insider involvement. They speculated that Roy might be part of a larger conspiracy involving someone with more power and influence.
This heinous crime has shaken the nation and led to widespread outrage among medical professionals. Doctors across the country have been protesting, demanding justice for their fallen colleague and a safer environment for healthcare workers. As the CBI continues its investigation, the father of the victim remains hopeful for justice, expressing his desire for concrete results. The case underscores the need for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth and hold all responsible parties accountable. It also highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to ensure the safety and security of healthcare professionals, who are often vulnerable to such attacks while performing their duties.
