The Kolkata police have arrested one person in connection with the death of a female post-graduate trainee doctor at the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The second-year medical student was found dead inside the seminar hall on Friday. A subsequent autopsy confirmed that she was also sexually assaulted. This tragic incident has led to widespread outrage, with the Federation of Resident Doctors Association demanding immediate action from Union Minister JP Nadda.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, classifying the incident as both homicide and sexual assault. Additional Commissioner of Police Murli Dhar has assured transparency in the investigation, stating, “Our investigation is going in the right direction in a transparent manner. Whatever further developments will be there, we will let you know as much as the law permits.” The case remains under investigation, with authorities committed to ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
