Kolkata Passport Office to Hold Adalat for Backlogged Applications

Kolkata: To address a substantial backlog of passport applications received through post office passport seva kendras (PoPSKs), which process applications offline due to limited internet connectivity, the Kolkata regional passport office has scheduled a passport adalat on May 1. This adalat will focus on resolving 800 applications that have been withheld because of insufficient documentation. Applicants who have received a summons are required to attend the adalat with the necessary documents to complete their applications. Failure to appear for the adalat will result in the closure of their applications, according to Ashish Middha, regional passport officer for the Kolkata region.

Bengal, which has the highest number of PoPSKs in India, has seen its pendency reach approximately 20,000 cases. To address this, the office has initiated a mega pendency clearance drive, offering five slots on the day of the adalat. Applicants are instructed to arrive 15 minutes before their designated slot, and each slot will accommodate 160 applicants. There will be an ample number of verification and granting officers present to assist applicants in completing their applications.

In addition to the adalat, the office will conduct regular pendency reduction drives on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with 200 slots available each day. For further information, please refer to the following articles published recently:
