In a significant move to bolster cross-cultural tourism, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) India office and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) South Zone have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to strengthen travel ties between India and South Korea, particularly targeting the emerging travel market of South India.
The MoU was formalized on October 10, 2024, in Chennai by Mr. Myong Kil Yun, Regional Director of KTO for India and SAARC countries, and Mr. P. Rajalingam Basu, Group General Manager of IRCTC South Zone. Both officials expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, highlighting its potential to unlock new opportunities for tourism growth and cultural exchange.
Mr. Myong Kil Yun emphasized the importance of this partnership with IRCTC, a prominent player in the Indian tourism sector, for achieving the shared tourism objectives. He believes the collaboration will elevate Korea’s visibility as a desirable destination for Indian travelers and encourage more explorations of Korea’s rich cultural and natural offerings.
Mr. P. Rajalingam Basu echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the partnership’s focus on showcasing the historical connections between India and South Korea. The agreement aims to entice tourists from South India to experience the captivating cultural and natural wonders of Korea. Conversely, it will also facilitate Korean tourists to explore the diverse landscapes and vibrant culture of South India, particularly its renowned temples and rich history.
This strategic partnership is set to position South Korea as a preferred tourist destination for South Indian travelers, particularly in regions like Tamil Nadu. To achieve this, IRCTC will launch comprehensive tour packages specifically designed for South Indian travelers seeking to discover the beauty and cultural heritage of Korea.
Furthermore, the partnership will involve joint participation in tourism events and initiatives, further amplifying Korea’s presence in new travel markets and strengthening the ties between the two nations. This collaborative effort signifies a promising future for tourism exchange between India and South Korea, fostering cultural understanding and promoting travel experiences for both nations.
