KRTH Triumphs in March Nielsen Ratings, Oldies Make a Comeback

In the recently released March Nielsen ratings, oldies stations dominated the Los Angeles radio market, with KRTH (101.1 FM) taking the top spot with a 6.0 rating, dethroning KOST (103.5 FM), which had a rating of 5.6. KFI (640 AM), the top-rated talk station in town, came in third with a solid 5.5 rating.

KBIG (104.3 FM) and a tie between Spanish hits station KLVE (107.5 FM) and semi-Urban KTWV (94.7 FM) rounded out the top five with ratings of 4.5 and 4.2, respectively.

KROQ (106.7 FM) made a remarkable comeback, reclaiming its position as the top-rated alternative music station in town, surpassing Alt 98.7 FM (KYSR) with a rating of 3.0. Alt came in second in the category with a rating of 2.5.

KNX Newsradio (1070 AM, 97.1 FM) performed strongly, tying for ninth place with a 3.0 rating. The station’s online stream contributed significantly to its overall performance.

Go Country KKGO (105.1 FM) and Que Buena KBUE (105.5 FM) tied for twentieth place with a 1.7 share, indicating a modest growth in country music listenership after recent declines.

Several online streams made their mark on the ratings list, with KLAX having the highest-rated stream with a 0.4 share. When combined with its on-air ratings, KLAX would have ranked ninth overall.

Pasadena City College’s KPCC (89.3 FM) and USC’s KUSC (91.5 FM) tied for seventeenth place among public stations, each with a 2.2 rating.

Political talk stations KEIB (1150 AM) and KRLA (870 AM) tied for thirty-second place, indicating minimal influence on elections.

Meruelo-owned and operated stations, including KLOS (95.5 FM), KPWR (105.9 FM), and KDAY (93.5 FM), appeared on the list after resolving differences with Nielsen. However, Cumulus-owned KABC remains absent due to the lack of an agreement with Nielsen.

Nielsen ratings are estimates of the percentage of listeners aged six and over who tuned into a station between 6 a.m. and 12 midnight.
