Indian racing driver Kush Maini returned to the Formula 2 (F2) Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, fresh off his first Formula 1 (F1) test session with Alpine in Austria. The weekend proved successful for Maini, who secured a strong second-place finish in the sprint race on Saturday.
Starting from pole position, Maini suffered a wheelspin at the start, allowing Victor Martins of BWT Alpine to take the lead. Ritomo Miyata swiftly moved up to second, while Maini dropped to fourth position. However, Maini quickly regained a position on lap 2, overtaking Juan Manuel Correa and moving into third place. His teammate, Gabriel Bortoleto, followed closely behind.
By lap 10, Martins had established a comfortable lead, while Miyata maintained his second position, just ahead of Maini. With 10 laps remaining, Miyata faced difficulties with track limits, accumulating a five-second time penalty for exceeding the boundaries. He later received an additional five-second penalty, bringing the total to 10 seconds with five laps remaining.
The penalties ultimately cost Miyata his podium position, allowing Maini to move up to second place. Martins took the win, followed by Maini and Correa. Despite his strong performance in the sprint race, Maini finished sixth in the main race.
