Kyle Mayers has been drafted into the West Indies T20 World Cup squad as a replacement for injured opener Brandon King, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced in a release. Mayers, a seasoned T20 batsman with 37 appearances under his belt, is anticipated to join the squad on Saturday.
King sustained a side strain during the West Indies’ clash against England on Wednesday, effectively ending his participation in the tournament. The ICC confirmed the addition of Mayers in a statement, noting the approval of the Event Technical Committee.
The decision to replace King with Mayers was made by the Event Technical Committee, which comprises Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Johnny Grave (CEO, Cricket West Indies) and Kass Naidoo (Independent Representative). This committee oversees the tournament’s operational aspects, including player replacements.
