Kyrgyzstan Denounces Misinformation Campaign Amidst Bishkek Tensions

In response to the dissemination of “false information” in foreign media and social networks, particularly within Pakistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic has underscored that the situation in Bishkek is calm and fully under control. The ministry has urged media outlets, bloggers, and foreign governments to rely solely on verified information from Kyrgyz authorities.

The ministry’s statement highlighted that certain “destructive forces” are deliberately spreading untrue and false information about the Kyrgyz Republic, especially in Pakistan. Amidst this misinformation campaign, the ministry implored media representatives, bloggers, and foreign counterparts to rely solely on official and verified information from the competent authorities of Kyrgyzstan.

The ministry emphasized that the situation in Bishkek is calm and under complete control, and all necessary measures have been implemented to ensure security, peace, and stability. It reiterated the call for media representatives, bloggers, and foreign governments to rely solely on verified information from Kyrgyz authorities.

This move is aimed at countering the dissemination of untrue and deceptive narratives, safeguarding the reputation and integrity of the Kyrgyz Republic, and promoting transparency and trust in international communications.

Earlier on Friday, hundreds of Kyrgyz men attacked buildings housing foreign students, including Pakistanis, in Bishkek. The Kyrgyz police attributed the attack to foreigners, whose nationality remains unclear, who had allegedly beaten up locals in the city.

Following the incident, Pakistan summoned Kyrgyzstan’s top diplomat and handed a note of protest, demanding that the Kyrgyz government ensure the safety and security of Pakistani students and citizens. India has also advised its students in Bishkek to remain indoors and has provided a 24/7 contact number for assistance.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar advised Indian students to stay in regular contact with the Indian embassy in Bishkek, emphasizing the importance of monitoring their welfare.

In light of the ongoing situation, it is crucial to rely on verified information from credible sources and refrain from spreading misinformation that could further escalate tensions.
