La Maison 1888, the signature fine-dining restaurant at InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, has achieved a major milestone by receiving a One Star rating at the MICHELIN Guide ceremony for Vietnam. This accolade positions La Maison 1888 as the only restaurant in Danang to earn a Michelin star, and one of only seven in the entire country, demonstrating its exceptional culinary prowess.
Seif Hamdy, General Manager of InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, expressed his pride and gratitude, acknowledging the significant effort and dedication of the entire team. He specifically highlighted the pivotal role of Chef Pierre Gagnaire, whose vision and expertise have shaped the restaurant’s success.
La Maison 1888, housed within a captivating French Indochine-style mansion designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, stands out as the first establishment in Vietnam to be led by a MICHELIN-starred chef. The restaurant’s unique approach blends French culinary traditions with Vietnamese influences, creating a distinctive epicurean experience.
This July, La Maison 1888 will celebrate its Michelin recognition by featuring a special celebratory menu showcasing some of Pierre Gagnaire’s favorite dishes. Chef de Cuisine Florian Stein, known for his creativity and precision, leads the culinary direction alongside Gagnaire, ensuring each gastronomic experience at La Maison 1888 is exceptional.
Complementing the exceptional cuisine is an inspired selection of wines curated by Beverage Manager and sommelier Jimmy Chang. The restaurant’s Wine Cellar, recognized with the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for seven consecutive years, boasts a collection of rare vintages unavailable elsewhere in the country.
Adding to the restaurant’s accolades, Assistant Sommelier Toan Nguyen was awarded one of three special awards from MICHELIN, highlighting his young talent. This latest honor further strengthens La Maison 1888’s reputation as a leader in fine dining, building upon its long list of recognitions.
Over the past 11 years, La Maison 1888 has consistently set new standards for gastronomy in Vietnam, earning accolades such as being named one of the “Top 10 World’s Best Restaurants” by CNN, one of the “Top 10 Most Beautiful Restaurants in the World” by Architectural Digest, and the “World’s Leading Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant” by the World Travel Awards.
The inaugural MICHELIN Guide for Danang, following the 2023 launches for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, underscores Vietnam’s growing prominence on the global gastronomic stage. The MICHELIN Guide, established in 1900, celebrates the world’s best restaurants based on five key criteria: the personality of the chef’s cuisine, harmony of flavors, mastery of cooking techniques, quality of ingredients, and consistency over time and across the menu. La Maison 1888’s Michelin star is a testament to its unwavering commitment to these principles, making it a true culinary destination in Vietnam.
