The wait is over! Mumbai’s famed Lalbaugcha Raja, a majestic idol of Lord Ganesha, has been unveiled ahead of the grand Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The idol, seated majestically on a throne at the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Putlabai Chawl, exudes an aura of divine grace. This year, the festival, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi or Vinayak Chavithi, will begin on September 7th and continue for ten days, culminating in the immersion of the idols on September 17th.
The Lalbaugcha Raja, a prominent figure in Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, has been carefully maintained by the Kambli family for over eight decades. The festival, which celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, is deeply rooted in Hindu tradition and is celebrated with immense fervor across India. It is believed that during these ten days, Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, descends to Earth with his mother, Goddess Parvati, bringing blessings and prosperity.
To facilitate devotees traveling to Konkan for the celebrations, the Maharashtra government has made a special announcement. Starting September 5th and continuing until September 19th, all toll booths on the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway, the Mumbai-Goa National Highway, and other roads under the Public Works Department will be exempt from tolls for Ganesha devotees. This initiative aims to ease travel for those wishing to participate in the festivities and seek blessings from Lord Ganesha.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a vibrant and joyous occasion marked by elaborate pandals, delicious treats, and a sense of community. The festival is a time for prayers, offerings, and celebrations, making it one of the most anticipated and beloved Hindu festivals in India. As Mumbai prepares for the grand celebrations, the unveiling of Lalbaugcha Raja has set the stage for a memorable Ganesh Chaturthi.
