Lallianzuala Chhangte Named New Captain of Mumbai City FC

Mumbai City FC has announced that Indian forward Lallianzuala Chhangte will be the new captain for the upcoming 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season. Chhangte takes over the captaincy from Rahul Bheke, who returned to his former club, Bengaluru FC, after leading the Islanders to the ISL trophy last season.

Since joining Mumbai City FC in January 2022, Chhangte has been a consistent performer, showcasing his talent with 29 goals and 16 assists in 79 appearances. His impressive form continued in the 2023-24 ISL season where he contributed 16 goals (10 goals and six assists). This achievement marked a historic milestone as he became the first Indian player in ISL history to record over 15 goal contributions in consecutive seasons.

Chhangte’s impact on the team extends beyond his goalscoring prowess. He played a pivotal role in securing the ISL League Winners’ Shield in the 2022-23 season and was instrumental in the team’s ISL Cup victory in the following season. His leadership qualities and consistent performance have earned him the captaincy for the upcoming season.

Mumbai City FC will begin their ISL journey with a rematch of last season’s final, facing off against Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on September 13th. The team will be looking to start the season on a strong note with Chhangte leading the charge.
