Lalu Prasad Yadav Undergoes Angioplasty in Mumbai

RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav underwent an angioplasty procedure at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai on Wednesday, September 11. The 76-year-old former Bihar Chief Minister was admitted to the hospital on September 10 for a follow-up visit. He is expected to be discharged within a day or two.

Yadav’s latest hospital visit comes just days after he made a strong statement about his commitment to social justice. On September 5, he vowed to ensure that a caste census is conducted, declaring, “I will catch the RSS-BJP by the ear and make them get caste census done.”

This pledge echoes the RJD’s longstanding focus on the welfare of backward classes, a point emphasized by his son and heir apparent, Tejashwi Yadav. Tejashwi recently gave a detailed speech highlighting the RJD’s track record in safeguarding the interests of backward communities. He specifically pointed to his father’s role as Bihar CM in fully implementing the Mandal Commission and his own contributions as Deputy CM in ensuring a caste-based survey and increased quotas for deprived castes. He also blamed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the state’s new reservation laws getting struck down by the Patna High Court, accusing Kumar of failing to act in time to secure the laws.

Yadav’s health status and his recent pronouncements on caste-based issues remain closely watched as Bihar gears up for upcoming elections.
