Heavy rainfall in the southern Italian province of Caserta led to a devastating landslide, forcing evacuations and leaving a woman and her adult son missing. The pair, a woman in her 70s and her son in his 40s, were traveling in a three-wheeler that was swept away by the mudflow. Rescue crews found the mangled wreckage of their vehicle, raising fears for their safety.
The landslide struck the town of San Felice a Cancello, located about 30 kilometers northeast of Naples, on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services immediately launched a search operation for the missing individuals, deploying 10 squads to comb through the debris. Local mayor Emilio Nuzzo expressed his hope that the pair had managed to escape the landslide but acknowledged that the experts’ assessment painted a grim picture.
The devastating weather pattern also affected other parts of Italy. Violent thunderstorms and hailstorms battered the Milan and Como areas, while the Tuscan seaside experienced severe weather conditions. These incidents highlight the widespread impact of the recent rainfall, which has caused significant damage and raised concerns about safety across the country. As rescue efforts continue, the focus remains on finding the missing woman and her son, with the hope that they may still be alive.
