Early Tuesday morning, multiple landslides struck hilly areas near Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district, raising fears of people being trapped. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has mobilized rescue teams to the affected region. Fireforce and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are already on-site, with another NDRF team en route to provide further assistance. In a Facebook post, the KSDMA confirmed that two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps have been dispatched to Wayanad to support rescue operations. Local reports suggest that a significant number of individuals may be trapped. The rescue efforts are being complicated by the ongoing heavy rainfall. (With inputs from PTI)
