## Latvia Takes a Leap Towards Energy Independence with New Energy Storage Facility at Tārgale Wind Park
Latvia has officially joined the ranks of countries leading the way in renewable energy with the inauguration of the Tārgale Wind Park’s energy storage facility on November 1st, 2024. This groundbreaking project marks a significant milestone in the nation’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
The Tārgale Wind Park, already a prominent contributor to Latvia’s energy landscape with an annual generation capacity of 155 GWh, has taken its commitment to clean energy to the next level. The park, managed by Utilitas Wind, the largest wind energy producer in Latvia, has integrated a state-of-the-art energy storage system, powered by cutting-edge technology from Hoymiles.
This strategic move not only enhances the park’s overall efficiency but also contributes to stabilizing the Latvian energy grid. Hoymiles has played a crucial role in the project by providing vital components for the storage system, including 3,450 kW Power Conversion System (PCS) containers on the AC side and 3.44 MWh battery containers on the DC side. This new energy storage system, with a capacity of 20 MWh, allows the park to store excess energy generated during periods of high wind and release it back into the grid when demand is high.
The Tārgale Wind Park’s energy storage facility is a testament to Utilitas Wind’s dedication to driving sustainable energy solutions in Latvia. The project, which represents a €7 million investment, has attracted attention from both industry experts and government officials. During the grand opening ceremony, Minister for Climate and Energy, Mr. Kaspars Melnis, highlighted the project’s importance in strengthening Latvia’s energy infrastructure and preparing for a crucial transition in the coming year.
“It is essential to build new green energy capacity to ensure the resilience and smooth operation of our energy systems as we prepare for a key transition early next year. We are clearly moving in the right direction,” said Minister Melnis. The new storage system is a critical step in Latvia’s efforts to stabilize its energy supply while promoting sustainable development.
Hoymiles, a leading provider of clean energy solutions, is proud to be a key contributor to the Tārgale Wind Park’s energy storage project. The company, known for its commitment to innovation and technical expertise, continues to play a vital role in advancing global clean energy initiatives, making sustainable energy accessible to everyone.
