Jude Bellingham, Novak Djokovic, and Aitana Bonmati Triumph at Laureus World Sports Awards

At the 25th Laureus World Sports Awards held in Madrid, England midfielder Jude Bellingham became the first footballer to win the World Breakthrough of the Year award. His impressive season with Real Madrid, including a late winner in the El Clasico victory over Barcelona, earned him the recognition.

Novak Djokovic celebrated his record-tying fifth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award. After dominating the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open, the Serbian tennis star now holds the record for most men’s singles Grand Slam titles with 24.

Aitana Bonmati made history by winning two awards – Laureus Sportswoman of the Year and Women’s World Cup Team of the Year for her role in Spain’s World Cup triumph. She expressed her gratitude and the team’s commitment to equality and representation.

American gymnast Simone Biles, a previous three-time Sportswoman of the Year winner, received the World Comeback of the Year Award. She claimed four gold medals at the World Gymnastics Championships after returning from an extended break due to mental health concerns.

Other notable award recipients included Rafael Nadal (Sport for Good), Diede de Groot (World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability), and Arisa Trew (World Action Sportsperson of the Year) at these prestigious awards that celebrate the best in global sports.
