Rapper and singer Lay Bankz, 19, has achieved a significant milestone by charting her first song on the Billboard Hot 100. Her breakthrough single, “Tell Ur Girlfriend,” debuted at an impressive No. 58 on the chart dated April 27. The track’s success is largely attributed to its strong streaming performance, with 8.8 million official U.S. clicks in the April 12-18 tracking week, according to Luminate.
In addition to its Hot 100 debut, “Tell Ur Girlfriend” also made a significant impact on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, jumping 45-24. It also debuted at No. 21 on Hot Rap Songs, marking Lay Bankz’s first entry on the overall Billboard charts.
Lay Bankz’s rising profile can be attributed in part to her strong presence on TikTok, where she boasts over 3 million followers. “Tell Ur Girlfriend” has soundtracked over a million videos on the platform, with one version of the song used in over 800,000 clips. Its official audio has also been used in over 30,000 videos. The song’s virality on TikTok contributed to its No. 11 arrival on the April 20-dated TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart.
Prior to the success of “Tell Ur Girlfriend,” Lay Bankz gained attention with her song “Ick,” which has soundtracked over 200,000 TikToks and reached No. 8 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 in October. Both “Ick” and “Tell Ur Girlfriend” have benefited from viral dance trends on the platform.
Lay Bankz, who hails from Philadelphia, has released over a dozen songs since her debut single “Left Cheek (Doo Doo Blick)” in 2022 on Artist Partner Group. She released her debut seven-track EP, “Now You See Me,” in August 2023.
