Apple may be gearing up to release a new iteration of its beloved Beats Pill portable speaker. This speculation stems from a recent social media post showcasing Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James carrying an unreleased Beats Pill speaker as he entered an arena. Notably, this speaker features a lanyard, a feature not available on previous versions of the product.
The original Beats Pill debuted in 2012, followed by the Beats Pill+ in 2015. The Beats Pill+ incorporated a Lightning port for charging and seamless integration with the Beats app on iOS and Android. At the time of its release, it was highly regarded as a top-notch portable speaker, surpassing its predecessor, the Beats Pill 2.0.
In 2018, rumors circulated that Apple was developing a $199 AirPlay-enabled smart speaker under the Beats brand. However, this product has yet to materialize, and its development status remains uncertain.
The Beats Pill+ initially retailed for $229, but Apple reduced the price to $179.95 in the lead-up to its discontinuation. Fans eagerly await further details from Beats, and the prospect of a refreshed Beats Pill with integrated AirPlay or Apple’s H2 wireless chip capabilities and USB-C charging is particularly exciting.
