Leeds Maintain Promotion Charge with Thrilling 4-3 Win Over Middlesbrough

In a thrilling encounter at the Riverside Stadium, Leeds United emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over Middlesbrough, maintaining their automatic promotion charge.

Leeds started the game on the back foot, conceding an early goal to Isaiah Jones. However, the Whites rallied back quickly, leveling the score through a Crysencio Summerville penalty. Patrick Bamford then gave Leeds the lead for the first time, converting a cross from Junior Firpo.

Middlesbrough refused to go down without a fight, as Emmanuel Latte Lath equalized for the hosts. Just before halftime, Willy Gnonto put Leeds back in front, despite replays showing he may have been offside in the buildup.

In the second half, Leeds sat back and absorbed Middlesbrough’s pressure, extending their lead through another Summerville goal. Latte Lath once again reduced the deficit for Boro, but Leeds held on for a vital victory.

The result puts Leeds back into second place, one point behind leaders Leicester City. Middlesbrough’s faint playoff hopes ended as they remain ninth, nine points off the top six.
