Legendary screenwriter David Mamet has launched a scathing attack on the entertainment industry’s efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), calling them “garbage” and “fascist totalitarianism.”
During a recent appearance at the Festival of Books, Mamet, known for his rapid-fire script dialogue and trademark plays, took aim at the industry’s “woke brigade” and its push for greater representation.
The playwright and director, who has worked in Hollywood since the 1980s, expressed concern that DEI initiatives stifle individual initiative and creativity. He warned of a decline in production but predicted an improvement in script quality.
Mamet vehemently denied allegations of nepotism, asserting that his children, including acclaimed actress Zosia Mamet, earned their success on merit alone.
