A cleaning expert known as the “Queen of Clean,” Lynsey, has revealed a simple yet effective method for tackling hard water marks and limescale using a common household fruit—lemon. In a recent blog post, she highlighted the versatility of lemons as a natural cleaning agent that can make your sink sparkle without the need for vinegar.
Hard water marks on sinks can be notoriously difficult to remove, but Lynsey offers a straightforward solution. She suggests rubbing the affected area with half a lemon, combined with some bicarbonate of soda. This simple mixture can effectively break down and eliminate stubborn hard water stains.
For those pesky limescale deposits on the end of your taps, Lynsey advises positioning the lemon half directly onto the tap and letting it work its magic. Leaving the lemon in place for a while allows the natural acids to break down the limescale, after which you can rinse it away.
Lynsey also highlights the impressive ability of lemons to tackle limescale build-up. To address limescale on taps, she recommends cutting a lemon in half and rubbing it all over the tap where the limescale is present. For more stubborn build-up, this process may need to be repeated.
When it comes to descaling your kettle, Lynsey’s advice is equally simple. She suggests placing a few used lemon halves into the kettle, filling it with water, and bringing it to a boil. After letting it sit for 30 minutes, boil it again before emptying. A quick rinse to remove any remaining bits, and your kettle should be free of limescale.
