Lenovo has inadvertently revealed the existence of two new handheld gaming consoles: the Legion Go Gen 2 and the Legion Go Lite. The confirmation came from a document for the new Legion Go USB-C Dock, which lists support for these two upcoming devices.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the Legion Go Lite. Back in May, Windows Central reported that Lenovo was working on a smaller, more affordable version of the original Legion Go. This 7-inch device is rumored to be powered by the same AMD Z1 series chipset but will offer refined features and a lower price tag. Just recently, YouTuber NITRXX posted images of what appears to be the outer shell of the Legion Go Lite, further fueling the excitement. These images suggest that the Legion Go Lite will feature fixed controllers, eliminating the need for separate mouse hardware, a smaller trackpad beneath the right analog stick, fewer rear buttons, and repositioned auxiliary buttons.
As for the Legion Go Gen 2, information is still scarce. This is the first time we’ve heard about this device, and it’s likely to be the successor to the current Legion Go. The original Legion Go boasts impressive specs with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 16GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, and up to 1TB of PCIe Gen4 SSD storage, putting it on par with competitors like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally. One of its distinguishing features is its larger 8-inch display and detachable controllers, reminiscent of the Nintendo Switch. While concrete details are yet to be released, we can expect the Legion Go Gen 2 to sport a more powerful chipset. AMD’s recent releases, like the Ryzen 8000 series and the Ryzen AI 300, are powering various laptops and mini PCs, making them potential candidates for the Legion Go Gen 2. A move to an AMD Z2 or Z2 Extreme chipset is the natural progression, but Intel’s latest Lunar Lake chips are also strong contenders and could be a suitable fit for future handheld gaming consoles.
With these leaks, the anticipation for Lenovo’s new handheld gaming consoles is growing. The Legion Go Lite promises a more accessible entry point to the handheld gaming world, while the Legion Go Gen 2 could push the boundaries of performance and features. It’s exciting to see what Lenovo has in store for gamers and how these new devices will shake up the competitive landscape.
