Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Claims 29 Hours of Battery Life

Lenovo has announced a new ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 laptop that claims to deliver an astonishing 29 hours of local video playback. This impressive feat is attributed to the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chip powering the device. While claims of exceptional battery life from Snapdragon-powered PCs have been common in recent months, this particular claim takes the crown.

The 29-hour claim was initially discovered on the Chinese social media platform Weibo by Tom’s Hardware. However, the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 is now listed on the U.S. Lenovo website, and it notably omits this specific number. Instead, it emphasizes ‘true multiday battery life’, equating one day to 24 hours. It remains unclear whether the precise 29-hour figure will be formally included in a marketing campaign in the future.

It’s crucial to remember that the standardized local video playback tests used for battery life marketing claims don’t necessarily reflect typical laptop usage. While watching downloaded movies offline on planes is a specific scenario, it’s not representative of the general public’s laptop usage patterns. Therefore, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the T14s Gen 6’s actual battery life may be shorter when performing tasks like web browsing and typing for extended periods.

However, the positive side is that Snapdragon-powered PCs have consistently demonstrated excellent battery performance in independent tests. For example, the HP OmniBook X, with a claimed battery life of 26 hours for local video playback, achieved 13 hours and 37 minutes of web browsing and 22 hours and 4 minutes of video playback in real-world tests. If Lenovo’s video playback claims are accurate, the T14s Gen 6 could potentially last an hour or two longer than the OmniBook, but this remains to be confirmed by independent testing.

The new ThinkPad is equipped with an Integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU, 32 GB RAM, 1TB of storage, and a 14-inch IPS display. Lenovo positions this laptop as a professional tool, ideal for demanding workloads such as video transcoding, analyzing large datasets, and coding. It features a comprehensive array of ports, including two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports, a HDMI 2.1 port, and an optional Nano Sim slot. Additionally, it boasts a fingerprint reader and an infrared camera for biometric login. The T14s Gen 6 is priced at $1,754.35 on the U.S. Lenovo website.
