Lenovo has launched a new PC that directly targets the Apple Mac Studio: the YOGA Portal Ultimate PC. This system, specifically aimed at the Chinese market, is powered by an Intel Core i7-14700 processor and a full desktop NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card. While the global market version of the Neo Ultra variant boasts an Intel Core i9-14900 processor and RTX 4060 graphics, the Chinese version features a slightly less powerful CPU but a significantly more powerful GPU.
One of the key highlights of the YOGA Portal Ultimate PC is its upgradeability. Lenovo has incorporated Intel’s desktop LGA1700 socket, enabling users to swap out the CPU. While upgrading the GPU may be more challenging due to the custom cooling system, the system offers dedicated M.2 slots for an NPU card and allows for easy upgrades to RAM and SSD storage.
This level of customization is a stark contrast to Apple’s approach with the Mac Studio, which limits upgrade options. While the YOGA Portal Ultimate PC is not offered as a barebones system, Lenovo’s commitment to allowing users to upgrade key components makes it a compelling alternative to Apple’s offerings.
The YOGA Portal Ultimate PC is priced at 17,999 RMB (approximately $2500 USD) and comes with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. With its powerful hardware, upgradeability, and competitive price point, Lenovo’s new PC is poised to challenge the dominance of the Apple Mac Studio in the high-performance desktop market.
