In the first quarter of 2023, LG Display, the South Korean flat-screen maker, reported an operating loss of 469 billion won ($341 million), largely attributed to a decline in demand for large display panels used in televisions and small panels utilized in smartphones. This loss follows a profit in the previous quarter and marks a departure from six consecutive quarterly losses. In comparison to the same period last year, the loss was lower than the 1.1 trillion won loss and outperformed the projected loss of 630 billion won according to LSEG SmartEstimate. During the fourth quarter of 2023, LG Display exhibited positive results due to increased seasonal demand during the year-end holidays.
