Li Auto Partners with State-Owned Enterprise to Boost Charging Infrastructure

Li Auto Inc. (LI), a prominent Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has taken a significant step towards expanding its charging infrastructure network by partnering with a state-owned enterprise. The company has reportedly finalized an agreement with Shoucheng Holdings, a subsidiary of Beijing-based Shougang Group, to establish 2,000 supercharging stations by the end of the year. This collaboration aims to enhance the convenience and accessibility of charging services for Li Auto vehicle owners.

The partnership was announced on August 22nd, with both Li Auto and Shoucheng Holdings committing to jointly fund Beijing Shoucheng Supercharging Energy Technology Co. Ltd., the newly formed joint venture. While the specifics of the joint venture remain undisclosed, the partnership signals a strategic move by Li Auto to address the critical need for robust charging infrastructure in China.

Leveraging Shoucheng’s extensive site resources and expertise in power acquisition, Li Auto plans to develop and operate charging infrastructure within urban areas. The newly constructed charging stations will be seamlessly integrated with various charging platforms, further streamlining the charging experience for Li Auto users.

This partnership with Shoucheng represents the latest in a series of strategic collaborations undertaken by Li Auto to bolster EV infrastructure development. Earlier this year, in June, Li Auto signed a similar cooperation agreement with PetroChina Kunlun Wanglian Electric Energy Technology Co. Ltd. This partnership focuses on expanding charging infrastructure along highways and in cities across China, while also integrating their respective charging platforms.

The company’s proactive approach to expanding its charging network is a testament to Li Auto’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and convenient EV ownership experience. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise in China, Li Auto’s strategic partnerships underscore its ambition to play a leading role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility.
