The tragic incident occurred on October 16th at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. Payne was found deceased by paramedics after falling from his third-floor room balcony. Prior to his death, he was seen smashing a laptop in the hotel lobby and was escorted back to his room by staff. A hotel employee reported to the police, “There is a guest who is high and drunk, and when he is conscious, he is destroying his room. Can someone please be sent to the room? He is in a room with a balcony, and I’m worried about his safety.”
Local media reports indicate that drugs, drug paraphernalia, and alcohol were found in the destroyed room, suggesting that Payne was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of his death. His girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who had been traveling with him in Argentina, had returned to the United States on October 14th. Two women were seen entering and leaving Payne’s room on the day of his death, but they had left a few hours before his passing.
