Lions QB Jared Goff’s Contract Extension Not Imminent

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff’s contract extension is not considered imminent, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. This news comes after the Lions recently re-signed wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and offensive tackle Penei Sewell.

Goff, who will enter the final year of his current contract in 2023, was the No. 1 overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2016. He was traded to the Lions in 2021 in a deal that sent Matthew Stafford to the Rams.

Goff has one year remaining on his contract and is set to earn $27.3 million in 2024. In 2023, Goff appeared in all 17 games for the Lions and completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The Lions have been busy this offseason, re-signing several key players, including St. Brown, Sewell, and running back Jamaal Williams. However, it appears that Goff’s contract extension will have to wait for now.
