A chaotic scene unfolded in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district when a crowd brazenly stole seized illicit liquor from police just moments before its scheduled destruction. The incident, reported by the Economic Times, occurred at a dumping yard on Etukuru Road where officers were preparing to dispose of illegal liquor worth ₹50 lakh. Despite the presence of police, the crowd overwhelmed them, carrying off as many bottles as they could. This incident underscores the challenges authorities face in disposing of seized illicit liquor in public areas.
In a separate incident in Hyderabad, Telangana’s excise department conducted a raid at a cafe and confiscated 23 cartons of ice cream containing 11.5 kg of whiskey-infused ice cream. The cafe, named Cafe Ice Cream Parlour in Jubilee Hills, was found to be selling the alcoholic dessert openly. Investigations revealed that the cafe was adding 60 ml of whiskey to each kilogram of ice cream and selling it at inflated prices. The owners, Dayakar Reddy and Shobhan, had even used social media to advertise their product and attract customers.
In another raid conducted on Thursday, excise officials seized non-duty-paid liquor worth ₹3.85 lakhs from the RTC Cross Roads area of Hyderabad. The liquor, brought from Chandigarh by the accused, Gopal Agrawal, was intended to be sold in Hyderabad at a higher price.
