Get ready to say goodbye to one of gaming’s cutest platformers: LittleBigPlanet 3. Developers announced on Tuesday that the game, along with all its DLC, will be delisted from the PlayStation Store by the end of October. This means if you’ve been wanting to experience this 2014 gem, now’s your last chance. The game will be removed from the PlayStation Store on October 31st.
While current owners can still access LittleBigPlanet 3 after the delisting, the news comes as a bit of a blow to fans. The game has been plagued by online server issues in recent years, leading to the loss of much of its user-generated content. This content, including user-created levels, characters, and decorations, was a core part of the LittleBigPlanet experience. In 2021, the majority of the game’s servers were shut down due to a series of DDoS attacks. Only PS4 users could still access the online functionality, but even that access was limited to content stored locally. Unfortunately, this meant that millions of levels were potentially lost forever.
Earlier this year, the remaining PS4 servers were taken offline indefinitely due to “ongoing technical issues” caused in part by malicious mods. The delisting, therefore, is a final nail in the coffin for LittleBigPlanet 3’s online experience.
If you’re looking for a Sackboy fix and want to avoid the potential risks of user-generated content, consider checking out the 2020 spin-off ‘Sackboy: A Big Adventure’. This 3D platformer is available on PS4, PS5, and PC and offers a fresh take on the LittleBigPlanet universe. While LittleBigPlanet 3 may be leaving the digital shelves, it’s a reminder that the game’s legacy and charming gameplay will live on in the memories of those who played it.
