Greg Norman, CEO of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league, has disclosed conversations with a ‘top’ PGA Tour golfer at his residence. Although the player ultimately declined, Norman remains optimistic about securing future defections from prominent players.
At the LIV Golf event in Adelaide, Norman shared, “I’ve sat down with one top, top PGA Tour player in his house with another member of my team, walking through the whole process, and he was so impressed.” Despite being impressed, the player opted to remain with the PGA Tour. Norman respected his decision, stating, “If you’re happier over here, fine, stay there. Your door is always open; if you want to come back and have a conversation with us, happy to do that.”
Norman addressed speculation regarding Rory McIlroy’s potential defection, stating that LIV Golf had not made an offer and that any rumors were “typical white noise.” However, he emphasized LIV Golf’s willingness to engage in conversations with interested players, including McIlroy.
Norman’s comments underscore LIV Golf’s ongoing pursuit of top talent. The league, which has signed several high-profile golfers, including 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm, aims to establish itself as a formidable rival to the PGA Tour.
