Liverpool Eye Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s Successor Amid Premier League Interest

Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp, who will leave the club at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Slot, 45, has emerged as a leading candidate for the Liverpool job after guiding Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup in the past two seasons. He also led the Dutch club to the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022.

The former Zwolle and Breda midfielder has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Bayern Munich, who are set to lose their manager Thomas Tuchel this summer. Liverpool are keen to secure Slot’s services, and the club’s sporting hierarchy, including the returning Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes, will need to prove persuasive.

Slot was on Tottenham Hotspur’s shortlist last summer but chose to remain in the Netherlands. Arsenal star Reiss Nelson, who played under Slot at Feyenoord during the 2021/22 season, has spoken highly of the manager’s abilities.

Liverpool will need to negotiate a compensation package with Feyenoord as Slot still has two years remaining on his contract. The figure required is believed to be around £8.6 million.

Slot’s appointment would mark a new era for Liverpool, who are set to bid farewell to their long-serving manager Jurgen Klopp after nine successful years at Anfield.
