Liverpool Eye Feyenoord’s Arne Slot to Replace Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool is reportedly considering Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp, who is set to depart at the end of the season. Slot has been successful with Feyenoord, winning the Dutch Cup and league title, and is seen as a strong candidate to take over at Anfield.

Slot won the Dutch Cup at the weekend with a 1-0 win in the final over NEC Breda and also led the Rotterdam side to a league title in 2022-23, just their second championship triumph since the turn of the century. The 45-year-old Dutchman is now a strong candidate for the soon-to-be vacant Anfield job when Jurgen Klopp departs in the summer.

Feyenoord is said to be happy to sanction a departure but would need €10 million to do so. Sources say the Dutch club are growing increasingly frustrated at Slot’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, constantly offering him to other clubs. The manager is said to have a significant amount of power over transfers at Feyenoord and the club has been willing to give him what he demands.

Slot is likely to bring his right-hand man Sipke Hulshoff to his next club, with Liverpool needing a mass rebuild in the coaching department after a number of high-profile members of Klopp’s trusted team set to follow him out of the exit door.

No formal or direct talks have taken place yet between Liverpool and Slot or Feyenoord, and the Dutch club was only informed earlier this week of growing interest in their manager. Klopp announced in late January he would leave the club after nearly nine years at the helm and he now has just five matches remaining on Merseyside, including tomorrow’s trip across Stanley Park to Everton and Goodison Park.
