Liverpool Eye Merseysider Mastery as Arsenal Reign Supreme

After Arsenal’s 5-0 win against Chelsea last night sent them top of the league, Liverpool headline as they hope to make their short journey to Everton a successful one to go level with Arsenal on points.

There’s no room for error at the top of the table, with the three horse race meaning Liverpool need to remain as one of the leading trio and put the spotlight on Manchester City, and whether they can respond.

Outside of the race for Premier League glory, Jurgen Klopp could make history for the Anfield club by becoming the first manager to get 10 league wins over Everton.

Sean Dyche’s Everton not only have to pick up valuable points to distance themselves from the relegation places, but the extra impetus of a win in Jurgen Klopp’s final Merseyside Derby may provide belief in their quest to keep their Premier League status.

Fellow relegation contenders Sheffield United will need something miraculous if they are able to escape the drop this season. Chris Wilder’s Blades have one win in their last 17 Premier League games, and it would apply more pressure on the Manchester United hierarchy if Sheffield United could add a rare result to their recent poor form.

Erik ten Hag will be desperate to convincingly dominate Sheffield United after a turbulent Wembley experience against Coventry City. Being forced into extra time having gone three goals ahead, there are question marks over the long-term confidence in their manager.

However, if there was any side to bounce back and beat, you’d expect it to be the side currently positioned bottom of the league.

Regardless of what Man United do, Newcastle United have the opportunity to keep their sixth-place spot if they are to win tonight. They can afford to match Man United’s result, which would be enough to keep them above The Red Devils, but will want to handle their own business correctly.

Unbeaten in their last four, with two of those games seeing The Magpies score four goals, they’ll be confident heading into a tricky fixture against Crystal Palace.

It hasn’t been a bad few weeks for Crystal Palace, taking a huge scalp in a 1-0 win over Liverpool, then hammering West Ham 5-2. Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze continue to shine for The Eagles, as Jean-Philippe Mateta has hit a fine bit of form.

Oliver Glasner will want to continue overseeing the development of Palace by making it three from three in the league if they beat Newcastle tonight.

Wolves and Bournemouth have done tremendously well to sit comfortably in the Premier League table, given the pre-season predictions that would see some fans unsure of their survival hopes. They have both given themselves every chance of achieving a higher position at the end of the season, with only eight points between 13th placed Bournemouth and 6th placed Newcastle.

Wolves currently sit on 43 points, one point ahead of Bournemouth with two places in the league separating them. Injuries have seen Wolves winless in their last six across all competitions, but they have only lost to Bournemouth once in all of their Premier League meetings. Gary O’Neil stood in the opposite dugout that day as The Cherries won.

Bournemouth look like they have some consistency at least, with the roster of fit players the same as the selection available to play Aston Villa last weekend. Andoni Iraola could be on course to masterminding Bournemouth’s highest points tally if he surpasses the 46 points achieved in the 2016/17 season.

Two losses and a draw is the viewing for their last three games, and they’ll look to end brief streak against a laboured Wolves side tonight.
