Loro Piana’s latest collections for men and women presented a captivating fusion of comfort and luxury, with linen taking center stage. Walking through the presentation, filled with impeccably styled mannequins—especially in the women’s wear, which featured a notable hat-heavy aesthetic—the focus on linen was evident.
We learned about the innovative fabrications and blends that Loro Piana has experimented with, such as a cable knit cardigan crafted from a unique mix of linen and cashmere. This unexpected combination retained the natural ruggedness of linen while maintaining the soft touch of cashmere. Other notable fabric innovations included blends of linen with Manila hemp, a durable fiber derived from banana plants, and triple-bonded linen used in stylish raincoats designed for both genders. The presentation showcased a range of linen textures, including linen-silk blends, twisted linen weaves, and even linen flower prints.
Linen’s inherent breathability and moisture-absorbing qualities were highlighted throughout the collection. Stepping back from the overall scope of the presentation and focusing on individual garments, the true brilliance of Loro Piana’s approach became evident.
Women’s wear highlights included a beautifully crafted leather field jacket, perfect for layering over washed denim, and a vintage-inspired silk shirt adorned with a martini print. A highly impressive embroidered and shaved cashmere jacket in a ribbed liner shape, reminiscent of vintage finds, was another standout piece.
In menswear, a suede-collared country jacket featuring a placket front and crafted in treated linen was a standout. A linen-silk pale herringbone suit with a peak collar and matching shirt exemplified the brand’s ability to create both timeless and modern pieces. A tweed-inspired linen topcoat and an irregular oaty melange pattern added further depth to the collection. However, the styling of a particular ensemble featuring a gray bird’s eye work waistcoat, a round neck sweater, a tie, a shirt, and double-pleat flannel pants felt somewhat dated and overly fussy, leaning more towards a 1950s country doctor aesthetic than a 2020s luxury connoisseur.
Beyond the garments, Loro Piana showcased their latest sunglass styles, crafted from Japanese acetate. Adjacent to the eyewear display was a room dedicated to bags, including a luxurious tote crafted from nubuck with a cashmere lining. A small drawstring backpack was another notable addition.
The most exciting detail, however, was revealed between the bag display and the archive of Loro Piana printed scarves. A leather strap adorned with two buckles was looped over the shoulder of a mannequin, with the buckles securing the corners of a silk scarf, creating an impromptu, yet stylish handbag. This inventive and adaptable approach to accessory design allows customers to personalize their bags with their favorite scarves, creating a truly unique statement piece that can be refreshed with every new scarf acquisition.
