The Louisiana State Department, in conjunction with economic and entertainment development agencies, is embarking on a promotional tour of Europe to elevate its film industry profile and attract travelers to Louisiana. The initiative, led by the Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism, Louisiana Economic Development, and Louisiana Entertainment, will showcase the state’s capabilities for hosting film productions, television series, and other media projects. The campaign commences at the Cannes Film Festival in France, as announced by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser. The Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from May 14th to 25th, is renowned as a global stage for cinematic excellence. The Louisiana delegation will host a dedicated Louisiana Day at the American Film Pavilion during the event, inviting directors and producers to explore Louisiana as a potential filming location. Lt. Gov. Nungesser highlighted the strategic significance of the delegation’s presence at Cannes, particularly in the aftermath of the recent actors’ strike, to advance the state’s film sector. The delegation plans to interact with media and participate in panel discussions, emphasizing the tourism benefits generated by film and television productions. The tour will extend beyond Cannes to other European cities, including Milan, Italy, and Madrid, Spain. The Louisiana Office of Tourism will utilize a $300,000 grant awarded by the U.S. Commerce Department to enhance Louisiana’s visibility as a premier tourist destination in these markets. The grant also supports promotional efforts in Mumbai, India. In Spain, U.S. Ambassador Julissa Reynoso Pantaleon will host a banquet in honor of the delegation, showcasing Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage, tourism offerings, and renowned seafood. The event will be graced by the presence of Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, along with other distinguished guests.
