Lucas Giolito’s eagerly anticipated 2024 campaign with the Boston Red Sox has come to a premature end before he could even make his debut. The right-handed pitcher underwent season-ending elbow surgery, leaving him unable to fulfill his goal of logging 200 innings. While Giolito avoided the more complex Tommy John surgery, the emotional weight of his injury took its toll. “In terms of the team, they signed me to throw a lot of innings, and now I’m out for the whole year,” Giolito shared on “The Chris Rose Rotation” podcast. “That sucks. It was initially very tough. I felt almost guilty. I came here to do a job and have been healthy for most of my career.” Despite his setback, Giolito expressed optimism about his recovery and hopes to be back on the mound for the Red Sox in 2025. With the team boasting a solid starting pitching lineup and a promising 13-10 record, Giolito’s presence would have been a welcome addition, particularly with Nick Pivetta currently sidelined due to an elbow injury.
