Lucknow Building Collapse Death Toll Rises to Eight

The tragic building collapse in Lucknow, India, has claimed the lives of eight individuals, with the latest three bodies recovered from the rubble on Sunday. The identified victims include Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24), and Jagrup Singh (35), as reported by Relief Commissioner G S Naveen. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a three-story structure in the Transport Nagar area, housing storage units and a motor workshop, crumbled, leaving 28 people injured.

The injured have been hospitalized at various facilities, including Lok Bandhu Hospital, while rescue operations continue with a focus on ensuring no one remains trapped.

According to police investigations, the building, constructed approximately four years ago, was undergoing renovation at the time of the collapse. The majority of the victims were situated on the ground floor when the incident occurred at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. The ground floor housed a motor workshop and warehouse, the first floor served as a medical storage facility, and the second floor contained a cutlery warehouse.

Akash Singh, a worker in the medical godown who was among the injured, revealed that a pillar of the building had developed a crack before the collapse. He recounted, “We had come down to the ground floor because it was raining. We noticed that a pillar of the building had developed a crack. Suddenly, the entire building collapsed on us,” as reported by PTI.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate notice of the incident, instructing officials to expedite relief efforts and promptly transport the injured to hospitals for treatment. He expressed his wishes for the swift recovery of those injured.

ADG Law and Order Amitabh Yash, in a statement to ANI, emphasized the Chief Minister’s continuous monitoring of the situation and the ongoing rescue operations. “The CM took immediate cognizance and sent the senior officials to the spot so that the rescue operations could be carried out in coordination between all departments and more lives could be saved. NDRF, SDRF, fire services, medical services, electricity department, municipal council and all the other departments are carrying out the rescue operations… The CM is continuously reviewing the situation, and the relief and rescue operations,” ADG Law and Order told ANI.
