Lufthansa Launches Direct Service Connecting Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Frankfurt
Travelers in Minneapolis-Saint Paul can now enjoy a direct link to Germany and Europe thanks to Lufthansa’s new non-stop service connecting the Twin Cities to Frankfurt. The service kicked off on June 5th, ensuring that residents of the Twin Cities have easy, year-round access to Germany and other destinations across Europe and beyond, thanks to Lufthansa’s extensive global network.
Dirk Janzen, Vice President Passenger Sales for the Americas at Lufthansa Group, expressed excitement about the new connection: “We are thrilled to connect the vibrant Twin Cities, and the entire state of Minnesota, with Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, offering a direct link for Minneapolis-St. Paul residents to Lufthansa Group’s extensive network across Europe and beyond.”
The service, designated as Flight LH482, utilizes a Boeing 787-9 aircraft and takes off from Frankfurt Airport at 11:10 a.m., arriving at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport by 1:15 p.m. The return flight, LH483, leaves Minneapolis-Saint Paul at 3:05 p.m. and arrives in Frankfurt at 6:30 a.m. the next morning. These flights are scheduled five times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, all times local.
Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), welcomed Lufthansa to MSP as the newest international airline: “This new service addresses growing demand for travel to Germany and other European destinations. More than 35,500 passengers are projected to travel from MSP to Germany, while nearly 365,000 are expected to fly to Europe from MSP. Lufthansa not only helps meet that demand, but also gives passengers new options for reaching other parts of the globe.”
The Boeing 787-9 deployed on the new Minneapolis-Saint Paul route features a three-class configuration with 30 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, and 215 Economy Class seats. Aligned with Lufthansa’s sustainability goals, this aircraft model uses up to 30% less kerosene than its predecessors, resulting in significantly reduced emissions. Moreover, the Boeing 787-9 enhances passenger experience with the largest windows ever installed on a commercial aircraft, placed higher on the fuselage for optimal views, even from the middle row. Passengers can also adjust the window shades electronically, tailoring the cabin ambiance to their preference.
The introduction of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul route expands Lufthansa Group’s presence to 26 U.S. gateways, providing approximately 400 weekly flights this summer. In its pursuit to broaden its network, Lufthansa Group has launched several new routes this season, including a non-stop service from Seattle to Munich and an A380 service to Washington D.C. from Munich. Following the Minneapolis-Saint Paul initiation, a direct flight from Raleigh-Durham to Frankfurt is set to commence on June 6th. Additionally, SWISS, another Lufthansa Group airline, has recently started serving Washington DC and Toronto. This expansion underscores Lufthansa’s commitment to providing seamless global connectivity, ensuring Minneapolis-Saint Paul travelers direct access to its hub in Frankfurt.
