Lufthansa’s Enduring Partnership with South Korea: Celebrating 40 Years of Air Connectivity

Lufthansa German Airlines’ inaugural flight from Frankfurt to Seoul on October 31, 1984, marked the beginning of a long-standing partnership between Germany and South Korea. Initially, these flights included a layover in Anchorage, Alaska, but in 1991, direct flights were introduced, strengthening the travel ties between the two nations. Lufthansa’s dedication to the Korean market has only grown stronger over the years, with the airline playing a pioneering role in promoting sustainable travel through its collaboration with Korea’s KTX rail service. This partnership allows Lufthansa passengers to seamlessly travel from Seoul-Incheon International Airport to major KTX rail destinations across Korea using a single ticket. This integrated service streamlines the travel experience from downtown Seoul to Incheon Airport, with passengers enjoying convenient services like boarding pass issuance, luggage check-in, and immigration clearance right at the Seoul Station City-Airport Terminal. Leandro Tonidandel, Lufthansa Group Country Manager for Korea, emphasized the significance of this launch, noting that Lufthansa is the only international airline to offer such a comprehensive service in Korea. This new facility at Seoul Station City-Airport Terminal further underscores Lufthansa’s commitment to enhancing its services in the Korean market, with the airline currently operating 17 weekly flights between Europe and Korea, including the first direct flight from Seoul to Zurich.
