Get ready to witness a spectacular display of pyrotechnics as the 32nd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest takes center stage in Macau. Organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), this year’s event promises to be a dazzling celebration of milestones: the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
The contest, which will be held from September 7th to October 6th, will feature ten fireworks companies hailing from Russia, France, Canada, Thailand, Spain, the Philippines, China, Italy, Japan, and Portugal. Each team will showcase their artistry with 18-minute displays, vying for the title of champion. The vibrant spectacle will illuminate the night sky above the sea near Macau Tower at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on September 7th, 14th, and 21st, as well as on October 1st and 6th.
The contest is more than just a dazzling display of fireworks; it’s a testament to the synergy of tourism and events. Aiming to enhance nighttime experiences, attract visitors, and stimulate the local economy, the event solidifies Macao’s reputation as a vibrant international city. This year, six integrated resort enterprises are partnering for the contest, adding to the excitement and grandeur.
To ensure an unforgettable experience, MGTO has designated five prime viewing locations: the area between Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre and the Leisure Area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the waterfront at Macao Science Center, Avenida de Sagres (next to Mandarin Oriental, Macau), Anim’Arte NAM VAN, and Avenida do Oceano in Taipa.
For those who prefer to stay indoors, the fireworks will be broadcast live on TDM Ou Mun TV Channel and TDM Entertainment TV Channel, with synchronized music available on TDM – Radio Macao’s Chinese Channel (FM100.7) at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on each fireworks evening.
Beyond the stunning fireworks, the contest also offers a range of activities to engage the public. Photography enthusiasts and students can participate in the Photo Contest and Student Drawing Contest, coordinated by the Photographic Society of Macao and the Macau Artist Society, respectively.
The new online interactive game, accessible through promotional posts or the QR code at the fireworks viewing zones, adds a layer of digital engagement to the experience. Players can share photos or videos on WeChat mini-program “MGTO’s Interactive Zone” to garner likes or complete a fireworks photo game mission for a chance to win prizes.
The Fireworks Carnival, hosted by MGTO and the General Union of Neighbors Association of Macau, will take place next to the waterfront of Macao Science Center from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on each fireworks evening. This vibrant event will feature culinary delights, performances, and games, creating a festive atmosphere that complements the dazzling fireworks displays.
The Macao International Fireworks Display Contest is a testament to Macao’s commitment to creating unforgettable experiences for visitors and residents alike. As the city celebrates momentous anniversaries, the fireworks contest stands as a symbol of progress, innovation, and the vibrant spirit of Macao.
