Macao Tourism Roadshow Returns to Hong Kong, Promoting Summer Offerings

Ahead of the summer season, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launched the “Experience Macao” Carnival in Hong Kong from May 17 to 19, 2024. The roadshow highlights Macao’s cultural festivals and events, offering discounted travel products ideal for summer vacations, aiming to boost interest among different market segments and encourage visits to Macao.

Kicking off the summer, the three-day “Experience Macao” Carnival commenced at East Point City’s first-floor atrium, with MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong presiding over the opening ceremony. Notable attendees included Vic Lam from the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and representatives from six major integrated resorts in Macao.

During his address, Deputy Director Cheng highlighted Hong Kong’s significant role as a key visitor market for Macao, noting a substantial 21% increase in visits from Hong Kong in the first quarter of 2024. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Macao’s establishment as an SAR, the carnival offers an array of attractions including stage performances, themed zones, interactive games, and a parent-child workshop, presenting the latest travel opportunities and special offers from Macao.

The event also featured a vibrant mix of local artists from Hong Kong and Macao, such as Jeffrey Ngai, Kayan9896, and Germano Guilherme, who delighted audiences with musical performances and shared travel insights about Macao’s festivals, culinary delights, and popular spots. The artists engaged with attendees through interactive games, with Jeffrey introducing the “Fly you to Macao” promotion which includes free ferry and bus tickets.

The roadshow also marked the first promotion of Hengqin and Macao’s integrated resorts in Hong Kong, with dedicated exhibit zones showcasing community tourism, cultural heritage, and new transport routes like the Light Rapid Transit to A-Ma Temple. Attractive prizes, including hotel stays and dining vouchers, were offered through interactive games. Highlighting the 25th anniversary of the Macao SAR, the roadshow featured a special “Challenge on 25th Anniversary” game, with winners receiving a Macau Pass.

Additionally, MGTO partnered with four Hong Kong travel agencies to launch heavily discounted travel packages, including deals integrated with the “25” theme to commemorate the jubilee. A unique plush ball painting workshop was also part of the carnival, where families could create art based on Macao’s World Heritage sites like the Ruins of St. Paul’s and Guia Lighthouse, taking home their handmade souvenirs.

In response to the lifting of travel restrictions, MGTO continues to promote Macao through diverse marketing strategies, leveraging social media, collaborations with local influencers, and tailored travel itineraries to attract visitors from Hong Kong and beyond. These efforts are aimed at enhancing the visibility of Macao’s attractions and broadening its appeal as a premier travel destination.
