The “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” extended beyond formal gatherings, offering delegates and chefs from UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy an immersive experience of Macao’s diverse neighborhoods and culinary landscape. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) orchestrated a series of community tours, guiding participants through the historic center, including iconic landmarks like the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Na Tcha Temple, and Senado Square.
Delegates delved deeper into local culture through hands-on experiences: preparing Macanese sticky rice, participating in tea art sessions, and exploring bustling markets and restaurants. Twelve Creative Cities of Gastronomy engaged with local eateries, gaining insights into their operations and sampling regional specialties.
MGTO further facilitated culinary exchange by partnering with integrated resort enterprises in Macao. Chefs from Creative Cities collaborated with resort chefs, sharing expertise and culinary techniques. One of the Creative Cities even conducted an exchange program with high school students, aiming to nurture future generations of gastronomic enthusiasts.
The festival showcased a range of collaborative initiatives. Chefs from Chaozhou and Sands China Ltd. held a sharing session and workshop, while chefs from Arequipa, Peru, and SJM Resorts, S.A. hosted a future career planning session for students at the Mesa restaurant.
The “International Cities of Gastronomy Fest, Macao” was a testament to Macao’s strengths as a City of Gastronomy. MGTO’s initiative highlighted Macao’s unique position as a global platform for gastronomic exchange, fostering a dynamic exchange of culinary knowledge and cultural heritage among diverse cities worldwide. The event also reinforced Macao’s reputation as a thriving international metropolis, capable of hosting large-scale events that celebrate the intersection of culture, tourism, and gastronomy.
