Madhya Pradesh GRP Officials Suspended After Video Shows Brutal Beating of Woman and Son

Six railway police officials in Madhya Pradesh have been suspended after a disturbing video surfaced showing them brutally beating a woman and her minor son. The incident, which occurred in October 2023, has sparked widespread outrage on social media.

The video, which was first shared by the MP Congress on X (formerly Twitter), shows a woman in civilian clothes, identified as the police station in-charge, repeatedly hitting and kicking a woman and a boy inside her office. The woman can be seen using a bat to strike the woman before dragging her by her hair and kicking her while she’s on the floor. Another man in civilian clothes can be seen entering the room and watching the beating without intervening. Eventually, a group of police officers in uniform join in the assault.

The Congress party has alleged that the victims are from the Dalit community, further fueling public anger. They have demanded justice and accountability for the officers involved.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, responding to the outrage, ordered the immediate suspension of the GRP police station in-charge, a head constable, and four constables. He has also ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

The police have stated that the woman and her son were being questioned about an absconding individual named Deepak Vanshkar, who had 19 cases registered against him and was also externed from the district.

The incident highlights the concerning issue of police brutality and the need for transparency and accountability within law enforcement agencies. The suspension of the officers is a step towards ensuring justice for the victims, but the investigation must be thorough and impartial to address the systemic issues that may have contributed to this incident.
