Madhya Pradesh has firmly established itself as a prominent destination on India’s tourism map. This year, three of its villages – Pranpur, Sabarvani, and Ladpura Khas – were awarded the prestigious title of Best Tourism Villages in India. The recognition was bestowed by the Union Ministry of Tourism, acknowledging their outstanding contribution to rural and responsible tourism. The ceremony took place in New Delhi on September 27th, coinciding with World Tourism Day.
Pranpur was awarded in the craft category for its vibrant handloom weaving tradition. Sabarvani and Ladpura Khas were recognized for their commitment to responsible tourism practices. The honor was received by Ms. Bidisha Mukherjee, Additional Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, alongside representatives from the local communities.
This achievement underscores Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and empowering local communities through sustainable tourism. Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture, expressed his pride in the accomplishment, saying, “These villages represent the rich cultural heritage and traditional lifestyle of rural India, and we are dedicated to expanding rural tourism initiatives across the state, bringing global recognition and economic growth to local communities.”
Ms. Mukherjee emphasized that the recognition will not only boost domestic tourism but also attract international visitors. This will stimulate job growth and contribute to preserving traditional crafts, arts, and culture. This recent success follows the recognition of Madla village in Panna and Khokhar village in Sidhi last year, solidifying Madhya Pradesh’s position as a leader in rural tourism.
The award highlights Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable travel experiences, further elevating its presence in India’s tourism sector. It is an invitation for travelers to discover the rich cultural tapestry and natural beauty of these award-winning villages.
