Madonna Faces New Lawsuit for Late Starts on Celebration Tour

Following a lawsuit filed by concertgoers in Brooklyn over late show starts on her Celebration tour, Madonna is now facing a second lawsuit brought by fans in Washington DC. The lawsuit alleges that Madonna took the stage two hours late for two performance dates at the Capital One Arena in December 2023, after the ticket listed the start time as 8.30pm. According to the complaint, Madonna and entertainment giant Live Nation, who is also named in the lawsuit, committed “false advertising” and showed “total disrespect for her fans” by not adhering to the advertised showtime. The fans argue that the late start caused them inconvenience and hardship, as they had commitments to babysitters, work, and transportation arrangements that were disrupted. Despite apologizing to the audience for the delay, Madonna reportedly stated, “I am sorry I am late… no, I am not sorry, it’s who I am… I’m always late.” Madonna’s representatives have not yet commented on the lawsuit. This is not the first time Madonna has faced legal challenges over late show starts. In her motion to dismiss the Brooklyn lawsuit, her lawyers argued that fans should have expected the delay based on her “years-long history” of arriving late to prior concerts and that the ticket did not explicitly guarantee a specific start time. The Brooklyn fans, however, claimed that they would not have purchased tickets if they had known about the potential for such significant delays. The DC lawsuit makes similar arguments, claiming that the delay was a “wanton exercise in false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.” The case highlights the ongoing issue of late show starts in the concert industry and the potential legal consequences for artists who fail to adhere to advertised performance times. As Madonna’s Celebration tour continues, it remains to be seen whether she will face further legal action over this matter.
