Mainspring Energy Secures $87 Million Grant to Build Clean Tech Manufacturing Facility in Pennsylvania

## Mainspring Energy Awarded $87 Million to Build Clean Tech Manufacturing Facility in Pennsylvania

Mainspring Energy, a leader in innovative, fuel-flexible power generation, has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to receive a significant $87 million grant. This funding, awarded under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Advanced Energy Manufacturing & Recycling Grants Program, will enable the construction of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. This facility marks a crucial step forward in bolstering the nation’s clean energy infrastructure and creating a robust domestic supply chain for clean power technology.

The new facility, located near the Pittsburgh International Airport in Findlay Township, will produce Mainspring’s revolutionary Linear Generators. These generators, capable of generating power equivalent to meeting the needs of up to a quarter of a million homes, are designed to be highly efficient and fuel-flexible, capable of operating on a variety of fuels including natural gas, propane, hydrogen, ammonia, and biogas. This flexibility makes them a valuable tool in the transition to a cleaner energy future.

The project is expected to generate a significant economic impact in the region, creating nearly 300 jobs during the construction phase and employing over 600 women and men once operational. Mainspring is committed to recruiting a diverse workforce and will offer at least 20% of its new positions to individuals from underrepresented communities. The company also plans to support over 20 apprentices, investing in the future of skilled workers in Pennsylvania.

The total investment in southwestern Pennsylvania, including building and equipment, will exceed $175 million. The facility’s location near Pittsburgh, a region previously heavily reliant on the coal industry, will provide opportunities for individuals with valuable experience and expertise in manufacturing and production. This strategic move highlights the government’s commitment to supporting communities transitioning to cleaner energy sources, while simultaneously creating new economic opportunities and supporting skilled labor.

Mainspring’s innovative Linear Generators are a critical component of the broader effort to transition to a carbon-pollution-free electricity sector by 2035. The company’s commitment to developing and deploying this technology is a testament to its dedication to building a sustainable future and its role in driving the nation’s energy transition. The company expects to break ground on the facility in 2025.

This project has received widespread bipartisan support from Pennsylvania Congressmen Guy Reschenthaler, Chris Deluzio, and Mike Kelly, as well as Senators Bob Casey, Jr. and John Fetterman. The strong support from both sides of the aisle reflects the significant potential of this project to create jobs, revitalize the community, and contribute to a cleaner energy future.
