MAIRE’s NEXTCHEM Technology Powers Sustainable Aviation Fuel Plant in Louisiana

MAIRE S.p.A. has announced that its subsidiary MyRechemical, a leading player in the Waste-to-Chemical sector, has entered into a licensing agreement with DG Fuels Louisiana, LCC. This agreement involves the licensing of NEXTCHEM’s proprietary NX Circular gasification technology, a key component in the development of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production facility. The plant, anticipated to be operational by 2028, will boast an annual production capacity of 450 million liters of SAF, primarily derived from residual biomass with a smaller contribution from municipal waste.

MyRechemical has been selected as the technology licensor for the gasification and gas treatment units. These units will be capable of processing 1 million tons annually of bagasse, sugar cane trash, and pulp, representing the initial phase of SAF production. As part of the licensing agreement, MyRechemical will provide the proprietary equipment for the gasification package, offering modular options to minimize on-site contingencies. This will be complemented by the provision of associated technical services.

The project aligns perfectly with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Fuels & Products Shot initiative, which aims to decarbonize the aviation sector through the industrialization of SAF production. Furthermore, SAF derived from biomass or waste satisfies the eligibility criteria set forth by the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This compliance ensures a reduction in carbon offsetting requirements for airlines.

The project is being spearheaded by DG Fuels Louisiana, a subsidiary of DG Fuels, a U.S. company specializing in renewable hydrogen and biogenic-based synthetic low-emission aviation fuel. Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, commented: “This landmark award confirms the reliability of our technologies and the role of MAIRE as a key player to enable the industry decarbonization through circular solutions in a strategic market such as the United States, and globally.”

MAIRE S.p.A. takes pride in leading a technology and engineering consortium dedicated to advancing the Energy Transition through cutting-edge solutions.
