Maïwenn on Working with Johnny Depp: ‘It’s Difficult to Shoot with Him’

Maïwenn, the French director of the historical drama ‘Jeanne du Barry,’ has opened up about her experience working with Johnny Depp, who plays King Louis XV in the film.

In an interview with The Independent, Maïwenn shared that it was difficult to shoot with Depp. ‘All the crew were scared because he has a different kind of humor and we didn’t know if he was going to be on time, or if he was going to be OK to say his lines,’ she said.

Maïwenn also revealed that she had to cut some of Depp’s dialogue due to his imperfect accent. ‘There was no time for rehearsals,’ she said. ‘I discovered his accent wasn’t perfect. So a few times I decided to cut his lines.’

Despite the challenges, Maïwenn praised Depp’s acting abilities, calling him a ‘huge genius.’ She also said that she had a close relationship with Depp prior to filming, but it has since changed.

‘There’s been no normal relationship since the shoot,’ Maïwenn said. ‘Johnny for me is a huge genius but he’s in another world. I cannot communicate with him.’
